A 16-year-old boy named Xiao Wei, born in a rural village in northern China, travels alone to Chongqing in search of his estranged mother. Along the way, he crosses paths with a solitary middle-aged woman. During this journey, the humid and oppressive atmosphere of Chongqing acts as a catalyst for emotions and desires, imprinting a kind of urban malaise upon the boy’s path to maturity.
